The RedSticks win a historic silver medal at the World Cup

The Spanish men's national team has been proclaimed world runner-up after falling narrowly (0-1) to Germany in a disputed World Cup final. The team led by Max Caldas carried the initiative and the weight of the match for a good part of the sixty minutes, generating the clearest chances of danger against the current world champion. However, an isolated action by Michel Struthoff at the end of the third quarter ended up tipping the balance in favor of the German bloc.

Despite the outcome of the decisive match, the silver medal represents a sporting milestone of the highest order: it is the third world runner-up in the history of the national team —after the editions of Barcelona 1971 and Utrecht 1998— and the return to a World Cup podium twenty-eight years later. The road to the final left matches of a very high competitive level, highlighting victories against powers such as Belgium in the quarter-finals and the Netherlands in the semi-finals.
