The Junior Club wins a historic bronze at the EuroHockey Indoor in Sant Cugat
16/02/2026
Catalan hockey has once again demonstrated its international potential this weekend in Pavilion 3 in Sant Cugat del Vallès. Club Junior 1917, acting as host of the EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup 2026, has achieved an unprecedented milestone in the history of the entity by winning the continental bronze medal.
An impeccable track record
The team led by Fede González has signed an excellent group stage, dominating Group A with great authority. The blue-and-blacks have added a hat-trick of victories against Old Georgians HC (7-1), the German Harvestehuder THC (7-5) and the Croatian Hokej Klub Zelina (4-0).
Despite falling in the semifinals against Amsterdam —who has finally been proclaimed champion of the tournament—, Junior was able to recover to face the fight for bronze with the utmost ambition.
A heart-stopping finish for a well-deserved bronze
The match for third and fourth place was against the Belgian Royal Leopold, the reigning champion of the previous edition. Equality presided over the match from the first minute, with a constant exchange of blows that brought the score to a two-to-two draw at halftime, thanks to goals from Aleix Bozal and Pablo Espino.
In the second half, Junior pressed the accelerator with goals from Oriol Serrahima and Marc Perellón, placing a hopeful 2-4. However, the Belgian team did not give up and managed to equalize the match with only four minutes left before the final whistle.
When everything seemed headed for shoot-outs, the figure of Oriol Serrahima appeared again. In a heart-stopping finale, a penalty corner in favor of the Sant Cugat team with only 30 seconds left allowed Serrahima to score the final 4-5, unleashing euphoria in the stands of Pavilion 3.
Sant Cugat, capital of European hockey
With this result, Junior closes the competition undefeated in regulation time, demonstrating that the competitive level of Catalan clubs is among the European elite.
On the other hand, Amsterdam was crowned European champion after clearly defeating the German Harvestehuder by 3-7 in the grand final.
From the Catalan Hockey Federation we would like to express our most sincere congratulations to Junior for this historic sporting success and, at the same time, congratulate the club for the excellent organization of a tournament that has turned Catalonia into the epicenter of world indoor hockey throughout the weekend.
