Catalonia successfully closes international hockey matches +80

10/11/2025

The Catalan Hockey Federation celebrates the success of the organization of the first matches of the Veterans +80 category that have ever been played in the Spanish State. The matches, held during the weekend of November 8 and 9, were not only a sporting milestone, but also a lesson in longevity and passion for the sport.

The result in both matches was the least, but it reflected a total equality between the competitors. The National Team of England, current European champions, tied 2-2 with the Rest of Europe Team, made up of players from several countries, including Spain.

· Matchday 1 (Saturday, November 8): Castelldefels HC hosted the first match, which ended in an exciting 2-2 draw.

· Matchday 2 (Sunday, November 9): CD Terrassa hosted the final, where the result was repeated 2-2, putting a brilliant end to the event.

The match served to pay a well-deserved tribute to the careers of several international figures. In Catalan terms, the European team was led by Catalan coach Josep Borrell. Three Catalan players actively participated: Jordi Fàbregas, Antoni Nogués and the oldest of them all, at 95 years old, Manuel Lobo. Unfortunately, a fourth Catalan player, Agustín Masana, was unable to attend for personal reasons.

The event was organized with the collaboration of the World Grand Masters Association, demonstrating Catalonia's capacity as a host of international events.

The Catalan Hockey Federation would like to especially thank the cooperation of the clubs Castelldefels HC and CD Terrassa for making their facilities available, as well as the essential support of the sponsor AON to make this historic milestone possible.
