5/05/2025
The Catalan Hockey Federation recently participated in a focus group session organized by the UFEC, within the framework of the European project POWER. This initiative aims to promote a fair and balanced representation of women in the field of sport.
The session, held at the headquarters of the UFEC and moderated by Sonia Güell, director of ESIDE, brought together representatives of different sports entities such as the Catalan Federation of Skating, Chess, Winter Sports, Hockey and the organization ConCu Igualtat.
During the focus group, key issues related to gender inequality in sports media were addressed, such as:
• The quantity and quality of media coverage.
• Stereotypes and sexualization in visual and textual representation.
• The lack of prominence of female sports performance.
• The impact of these inequalities on sports careers, public perception and sponsorship opportunities.
This exchange space allowed for the gathering of ideas and perspectives that will contribute to the development of strategies and practical guidelines for journalists and communication managers. The POWER project seeks to promote fair, stereotypical and empowering media representation for women athletes.
