2/03/2025
The Catalan men's and women's U-16 teams shine again in the Spanish Regional Championship, held this weekend in Granada and Alcalá La Real, proclaiming themselves champions in both categories. This success reaffirms the dominance of Catalan hockey at the national level and represents the fourth consecutive double in this competition, the thirteenth in the history of Catalonia.
The men's team has completed an impeccable championship, imposing itself with authority in all its matches. The boys debuted with a resounding victory against Cantabria (4-0) and maintained their scoring momentum against Galicia (8-0). In the semifinals, a collective exhibition allowed them to overcome Andalusia with an overwhelming 11-0. Finally, in a final against Madrid, Catalonia has won the title with an incontestable result of 8-0.
The women's team, for its part, has also demonstrated an exceptional level throughout the championship. After debuting with a 7-0 victory against Cantabria, the girls defeated the Canaries 12-0 and secured their place in the final by beating Euskadi 3-0 in the semi-finals. In a very close final against Madrid, Catalonia scored first, but the Madrid team tied the match. It was not until the last quarter when the Catalans sealed the match with a goal that crowned them champions 2-1.
Individual awards for the best players
The Catalan talent has also been recognized with individual awards. Àlex Carrera and Marta Farré have been chosen as the best players of the tournament, while Pol Balart and Aitana del Barrio have been recognized as the top scorers. These awards reflect the excellent competitive level and collective work of the Catalan teams.
A historic dominance
With this double, Catalonia now has thirteen joint titles in the under-16 category, consolidating itself as a powerhouse in state hockey. This success is also the fourth consecutive double, a fact that underlines the consistency and commitment of Catalan hockey to sporting excellence.
This Spanish Autonomic Championship once again demonstrates the tireless work of the clubs, players and technical bodies that make Catalan hockey a benchmark at state level. Congratulations to our champions!
