The Union of Catalan Sports Federations (UFEC) and the sports federations are launching the Esport Virtual Camp so that no child is left without doing sports this summer and opens registration this Thursday, June 25. The campus is funded by the General Secretariat for Sport and Physical Activity. It is a free virtual space with an innovative proposal to practice sports at home and with live sessions with well-known athletes and influencers, including Pierre Oriola (basketball player), Pau Russo (football), Blon (rapper).

No child without doing sports

The Catalan sports federations, aware of their social commitment to the practice of sport, and the delicate economic and social situation we are experiencing due to the coronavirus, offers all children in Catalonia, and free of charge, a virtual sports campus. From home, they will have access to a different sport every day, and a whole series of content to enjoy such as games, crafts, creative activities, and live connections with athletes and influencers where children can ask the questions they want to their idols. .  The campus will have a schedule of activities with four hours of content in Catalan personality depending on two age groups: from 6 to 9 and from 10 to 14 years. The platform will be a support for parents who have to work, and also for grandparents. It will be a secure digital environment for entertainment and training, and with parental control with the possibility of socializing and making friends.

4 intense weeks

The Virtual Sports Camp will start operating on July 6 and will be active for 4 weeks. The entire Virtual Camp program will be analyzed, studied and validated by a group of educators specializing in childhood.

“We are aware of our social function. Sport is a vehicle of cohesion and well-being for all ", explains Gerard Esteva, president of the UFEC about the initiative. "The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the economy of many Catalan families, and some of the damage will be irreparable, which is why we do not want any children to be left without sports this summer," he said.

Institutional support

The sports leisure activities that are organized in the summer for boys and girls have a long tradition in Catalonia and, as Gerard Figueras, Secretary General of Sport and Physical Activity, points out, “they contribute remarkably to the integral growth of children and adolescents, to their formation in values, to the promotion of healthy habits, as well as to the creation of a more active, responsible and committed society ”. In addition, this year these activities are "more necessary than ever" after almost three months of confinement. "Children have suffered especially from the effects of the pandemic and now they need to be offered varied and quality sports leisure options such as the Virtual Sports Camp," added Figueras. A campus that has the support of the General Secretariat of Sport and Physical Activity and, despite not being present, allows children to acquire "skills complementary to those of formal education and integrate a wide range of values thanks in the practice of sport and physical activity ”, he said.
